Perpetually Self-powered Wearable Sensor Networks
We live in a very exciting time in which we have nearly every type of sensor, computer, energy storage, and networking devices available and optimized for ultra-low power applications enabling their use in flexible hybrid electronics (FHE). Even more exciting is that these ever-shrinking power budgets for wireless systems mean energy harvesting (EH) technologies become viable for more and more applications to put us on the path of perpetually, self-powered devices. As a bonus, we get to mitigate the use of as many primary energy storage cells (i.e. – disposable batteries) as possible given their negative impact on sustainability and even the immediate safety of those in the direct environment.
