Methodologies for Assessing Reliability Performance of Flexible Displays
One of the main challenges for display reliability testing in consumer electronics is to correctly estimate the reliability performance with respect to the specific applications and use cases. Therefore, having the right test methodologies during product development is very crucial for developing robust products that can survive all different use case scenarios in the field. Recently with the application of flexible/foldable displays and incorporating thin cover window film/glass for curved and foldable devices, new reliability tests should be defined to correctly assess the performance of foldable/flexible displays. In this work, we have described different test methodologies for mechanical, environmental, and surface durability assessment of foldable displays in addition to each flexible component layer in the display stack such as ultra-thin glass, OCA and cover window film. Moreover, we are proposing various ways for improving the mechanical reliability of foldable displays.
