Advantages With Anisotropic Conductive Adhesive Films Comprising Particles Aligned With Electric Field Technology, Application Examples and Possibilities in FHE

CondAlign is a technology company making anisotropic conductive films and related products. Our technology uses an electric field to structure and align particles in a liquid polymer matrix before curing the matrix, locking the particles into their aligned positions. This results in an anisotropic, z-axis conductive film structure. Particle types and amounts impact the conductive properties, and electrical as well as thermal conductive particles (e.g. ceramics) can be applied. The technology is material independent and can be adapted to realize a wide range of conductive films with different material properties like flexibility, stickiness, and transparency. The very efficient usage of the conductive particles enables a tenfold or more reduction of particle content compared to traditional conductive products, which again allows the film to retain more of its initial properties. In combination with the freedom to select from a wide range of polymer systems, this allows us to target very specific properties and tailor-make conductive films to meet a broad range of requirements. The process has been demonstrated in roll-to-roll production, proofing it is scalable and cost-effective. This enables CondAlign to develop materials from lab-scale to pilot production together with our customers. We apply a licensing business model. CondAlign produces material at a lab-scale and interim level on our two R2R coating lines in Oslo, while full-scale production will take place at our customer or an OEM manufacturer. We can realize anisotropic conductive adhesives (ASA) films with thicknesses from a few µm to some hundreds µm and resistance below 0,01 Ohm/cm^2. Chain density can be very high (pitch below 10µm) which means it can be used as an advanced ACF in several application areas, replacing conventional bonding methods. Our ASA films are currently being tested and qualified by several customers at a global level.
