Dr. Andrew James Manning is President and CTO of Lithium Battery Engineering, LLC Dr. Manning is the President and Chief Technical Officer of Lithium Battery Engineering, which he founded in 2008 to provide consulting and contract R&D services for the lithium battery industry. In addition to consulting for various Tier 1 company, Lithium Battery Engineering has completed a number of Phase I and Phase II SBIRs for improved temperature performance of lithium batteries, lithium-air batteries, silicon, and other novel anode lithium ion batteries, EMI protection, and non-GPS positioning plus commercial contracts for lithium-ion cell manufacturing, supercapacitor development, and advanced flow battery electrode development. Jim is a PhD ChE from Cornell with very broad technical, business, and managerial experience and has held C-level positions in a number of organizations. Some of his successes include ruggedized cells for the Atlas V launch vehicle with over 40 missions; pressure tolerant cells for the Phoenix X-Bot that took the photos of the Titanic; successful start-up of the only high volume 18650 plant in the US; a separator that prevents overcharge; structural batteries with Battelle that can be used as wings and flexible batteries for the Custom Electronics FlexTech leaflet project.
